Derlin-1 is an ER transmembrane protein that plays multifunctions in cells. We have previously shown ER stress can elicit Derlin-1 expression and recruit TER94 to the ER for mitigating the stress and re-establish cell homeostasis. The process may mediate by some unconventional regulations of protein synthesis. We are trying to connect the dots to delineate how cells control protein production in responding to ER stress.  Unexpectedly, we also found Derlin-1 function is crucial for targeted intracellular trafficking. It would be interesting to dissect how this ER protein mediates different cellular processes.
